Some things we can fix without visiting.
If the problem is with software rather than hardware, we can often sort it
the same day without coming out, using a free program called AnyDesk. Here is
exactly how it works, so nothing is a surprise when we connect.

Use the button above. It is a single small file and it is free. You do not have to install anything or create an account, just open the file once it has finished downloading.

Read us your number
When AnyDesk opens it shows a nine-digit number under Your Address. Read that out to us on the phone. That number on its own does not let anyone in.

Accept the connection
We send a request and a box appears on your screen. Nothing at all happens until you click Accept. If you do not click it, we cannot see a thing.

Say yes if Windows asks
To change settings we may need your permission. Windows dims the screen and asks Do you want to allow this app to make changes. Click Yes, or tell us and we will talk you through it.

Stay with the machine
Please stay nearby while we work. You can watch everything we do on your own screen, and you can stop the session at any moment by closing the AnyDesk window.

When we have finished
Close AnyDesk and the connection ends there and then. If you would rather remove it completely, delete the file you downloaded. Nothing keeps running in the background.
Why this is safe — and when it is not
We can only ever connect when you click Accept. Your nine-digit number is useless on its own, you can see every single thing we do on your screen, and closing the window ends it instantly.
The one rule that matters: we will only ask you to do this on a call that you started. If somebody rings you out of the blue and asks you to install remote access software — claiming to be from Microsoft, your bank, your broadband provider, or even from us — put the phone down. That is the most common scam aimed at home computer users, and it relies on exactly this software. If you are ever unsure, hang up and ring us on 07745 551731.
